Tucson-based
Vicki Brown sonically visualizes movement in space in her first
independently-produced solo violin EP. Recorded in her Sonoran 1880's
adobe abode, "Winter Garden" is a series of sculpted sounds
carved with horsehair and catgut reflecting fluid mechanics and
celestial expansion.
Playing the violin since the age of 9, Vicki has traversed the broad
territory of classical music. But in recent times, she has begun
to blaze her own trails. Her desire to go "off the page"
was met when she had the fortuitous experience of taking a master
class on improvisation with Paul Horn and discovered that there
truly are no wrong notes; it just depends on how you place them
within a context. Since then, she has been playing with pedals and
loops to re-define what it means to play the violin.
Besides her solo project, Vicki has the pleasure of collaborating,
playing, cajoling, hanging out with, singing, and exchanging sideways
glances with many fine musician, including: Paul Niehaus of Calexico
(Winter Garden, 2006), Campo Bravo (Songs for Messy Lovers, 2005;
Goodbye, Oklahoma, 2006), The Splitters, Naim Amor (Sanguine, 2005),
John Coinman (Songs from the Modern West, 2005), Darren Hanlon (Little
Chills, 2004), The Drakes (2006), & The Rise and Fall of Amy
Rude (Snakeheart, 2005).

NPR's
Open Mic program will begin broadcasting/featuring VICKI's material
on July 5th.
Vicki
will be touring with CAMPO BRAVO this July.
