Go Green With Your Beauty Cosmetic Drawer
Going green means making the best of the resources that you have. It also means making better choices whenever a cleaner option is available. You may have already gone green at work or at school. Why not at home with the very products you put on your face and body? It is really simple to do this with cosmetics and other body care.
Start looking at expiration dates and toss anything that has expired. Also look at products that you’ve tried (but didn’t work) and toss them away as well. Cosmetics that contain antioxidants and SPF ingredients have a limited shelf life. Eye makeup, like mascara, and lipsticks are also vulnerable to bacterial contamination. If its been used with water throw it out sooner (within six months).

Looking at the ingredients list on some of the products in your drawer can also help you green your beauty cosmetics drawer. If the ingredients are not listed on the packaging there should be a number for you to call and ask about ingredient information.
There are preservatives that are put into products that have been approved to be in a product but ultimately hurt you and the environment. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has labeled chemical byproducts, such as formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane, as probable carcinogens. Carcinogens cause cancer.
Lastly, research cosmetics companies that are making an honest effort to lessen their environmental impact. From packaging to testing to ingredients there are always better alternatives. You can always contact them and ask if they are planning on developing more natural products. Companies will only make what people will buy.
