Campo Bravo is the musical vehicle of enigmatic songster Mark Matos, the first American born in a lineage of Portuguese peasants from the Azores islands. Hailing from California's musically fertile Central Valley (Grandaddy, Pavement), spending eight years wandering in some of the Northern Hemisphere's more interesting outposts (penniless and with an unhealthy Jack Kerouac fixation), Mark now resides in the blistering confines of Tucson, AZ. The band's rotating configuration draws from a pool of sought-after musicians including the Lady Vickie Brown on violin, Brian Green on bass, trap master W.M. Royce and multi-faceted instrumentalist Lazy Horse (of Bill Nye The Science Guy). The music unravels the traditions of folk, americana, and reckless rock 'n' roll to expose Matos' deconstructed American roots. Fans of wet cement, sunburns, parlour games, and chocolate-covered strawberries will be highly susceptible to the sounding charms of Campo Bravo.

Campo Bravo have shared bills with M. Ward, Okkervil River, Akron/Family, Richard Buckner, Smog, Laura Veirs, Kimya Dawson (Moldy Peaches), Howe Gelb, Karl Blau, Lambchop, Norfolk & Western, Little Wings, The Graves, Neko Case, and the Autumn Defense (members of Wilco). Mark Matos appears on the soundtrack of the film Hobo Grove (2004) from director D.G. Balazs, and the music of Campo Bravo scores the short film documentary Residual Doubt: A Portrait of a Capital Case Investigator (2005) by filmmaker David Maass.

Campo Bravo's new album "Goodbye, Oklahoma" will be released in late June 2006 in conjunction with a US Tour.
